MODELS OF THE BASAL GANGLIA
Models can be useful in helping to determine how areas of the brain
operate and what functions they may perform. Models can be built at
many levels. For example, a model could capture the operation of a
single neuron in great detail. Models at higher levels may capture
the interactions of many thousands of neurons (an example is shown
above). Neurons in these network models are generally represented much
more simplisticly. Computers are often utilised to simulate models
and demonstrate their operation and function.
