A 2 TD effort from WR/PR Dante Hall (Claymores 01), one a 92yd kickoff return for a TD, the other a 9yd pass from QB Trent Green, was not enough to help the Chiefs overcome Indianapolis as they fell to a 38-31 final scoreline. The Chiefs had never been on top in the match and it was Hall and RB Priest Holmes who scored all the KC touchdowns (2 apiece).

Claymores' Head Coach, Jack Bicknell has said that he will bring his own
offensive team coaches from Barcelona; Sam Rutigliano and Vince Martino.
This means that it is likely that OC Ken Margerum and OLC Don Eck will be
re-allocated to other NFLE teams. Coach Bicknell has still to talk to
Defensive Coach Jim Tomsula however, and there may still be a place on the
staff for him.
I am sad to hear that Offensive Coach, Ken Margerum and Offensive Line Coach,
Don Eck will be leaving the Claymores' organisation, as it was evident that in
the latter part of last season that the Claymores' offense was really playing
well. I wish them good fortune with whichever team they end up with.
I would be quite excited about a Tomsula organised defense playing alongside
a Bicknell offense however, should both coaches be happy to work together.
Defense has been one of the Claymores strong points in season's past, and the
Dragons have often played with an exciting Offense.

In his latest match for the Kansas City Chiefs, Dante Hall, scored another
touchdown (this one in regular play) and after crossing the goal line was
seen to put his arms in the shape of a cross. This was a gesture some
players have been noted doing for the Claymores in recent seasons and it
has been taken as a sign of recognition of his Claymores' season and the
Scottish fans. We're delighted that Dante still recognises us and hope he
'tears up the NFL' for many seasons.
The Barcelona Dragons have been suspended and are to be replaced by a new
franchise in an, as yet, unnamed city.
Germany seems to be the country most likely to profit from this unfortunate
state of affairs. My sympathies to all those Dragons' fans who have now
lost their team. It could as easily have been us or the Admirals, and may yet
still go that way, as there are rumours that the NFL Europe will change to
NFL Germany in a year or two's time.

Former Dragon's Head Coach, Jack Bicknell, has been appointed as Head Coach

Jack is a good Coach and I'm quite happy he is with the Claymores but he is

Week 10 - Admirals at Claymores
A depressing start to the Sunday trip knowing that neither of the games on the
Saturday night had gone in our favour and we were out of the World Bowl
irrespective of the forthcoming result.
While it may be a dubious system that allows one team to pick its opponents
for the final, the Claymores organisation (as a whole) only have themselves to
blame
for failing to be in control of their own destiny. How different this would
have been had the Claymores won the overtime battle in Frankfurt, a game they
were
well ahead in at halftime, for instance.
Anyway, what's done is done and owing to the fact I have a Galaxy top (aquired
from a sale somewhere at sometime) I will be supporting the Galaxy this coming
weekend (no doubt contrary to most Claymores' fans who saw the Galaxy-Thunder
game as a sell out and will therefore support the Fire).
No problems on the trip through to Glasgow this week, we had lots of spare
time and could
have arrived earlier to catch the pre-game show if we had wanted, but as it
looked like it was going to be a wet day we elected to turn up closer to
kickoff time and avoid various levels of grumpiness from wet, board, tired
and hungry kids.
This weekend's match mirrored the depression amongst the fans and was played
mostly
in the rain of a typical Scottish June day, but we all wanted the Claymores
to show why they should have been in the World Bowl and put up a good victory,
which they duly did.
The Admirals won the toss and elected to receive which
suited me fine. I always like to start a game on Defense as it gives the
crowd a chance to join in with "DeFense!" chants - not that many of the people
around where we sit have much of a clue but there was at least one other voice
apart from ours this week so maybe things are improving, although the number of
sniggering kids looking the wrong way from the action on the field seems about
the same :}
The lack of a long kicker (injured, I believe) meant that the Ads elected to
go for a 4th down on
their first drive, which failed, with their QB being sacked. This allowed the
Claymores Offense on to the
pitch where they engineered a great drive, culminating in a well crafted
shovel pass from Nall to Malan and the FB rumbled on into the endzone from
20yds out.
Claymores 7 - Admirals 0
The Admirals were not to be discouraged however and put together a drive from
the resulting kickoff that resulted in a tying TD from RB Tellis Redmon
running in from a couple of yards out.
Claymores 7 - Admirals 7
Claymores' KR Ken Simonton responded with a great
reply from
the kickoff and ran the ball back 66yds with good blocking from his teammates.
However the resultant position from the Ads 23yd line wasn't able to be
capitalised on and an attempted 32yd kick from Rob Hart was foiled by a bad
snap.
Rob had to pick up the ball and was creamed by a queue of Ads defenders.
The Admirals weren't able to do much with the ball however and eventually
punted it away.
Both sides held until just after the first quarter when an
attempted
52yd field goal by Claymores' K Brian Holmes fell short (Brian hasn't
had a great season, hope he doesn't suffer from it when he gets back to the
States).
The Claymores defense were still in pretty good form though and when the Ads
once
again refused to kick on a 4-1 from the 30yd line, their QB was sacked for
the second time in the match (The Claymores recorded 4 sacks in total for
this game).
The switch to QB Shane Stafford did nothing to slow down the Claymores good
progress and he engineered a 60yd drive finishing off with a short pass to
FB Mike Malan, who once again went over for the TD, this time from 4yds out.
The resultant 14-7 lead was held until halftime.
Claymores 14 - Admirals 7
After the break Nall was back on as QB and from the Claymores' first possession
at their own 40yd line, drove the team all the way to the endzone on the
back of Ken Simonton's running, finishing with a 15yd TD pass to WR Edell
Shepherd.
Claymores 21- Admirals 7
Former Claymores' 3rd string QB, David Priestley, came on for the Admirals but
had a torrid time at the hands of the Claymores' defense and couldn't get
anything going but the Ads got a break when a Craig Nall pass from within
his own 20 was intercepted and returned to the Claymores 10yd line. RB Tellis
Redmon ran the
ball in from there to bring the Ads back to within 7.
Claymores 21- Admirals 14
Another break followed as the Claymores pressed for another TD but FB Mike
Malan (who had a great game to this point) fumbled the ball in the Admirals
red zone and the Admirals recovered. They couldn't do anything with it
however even although in the resultant drive they fumbled themselves and
recovered again.
Having had to punt the ball away, the Ads held the Claymores offence and
eventually got the ball back only to fumble it once more except this time
it was the
Claymores' who came up with the ball and turned the resultant possession into
3 points with a Rob Hart 31yd field goal.
Claymores 24 - Admirals 14
Thereafter it was the Ken Simonton show as the Claymores ran down the clock.
Then Stafford snapped out of the run,.. run,.. run,.. scenario to fire a
29yd TD strike to
WR Edell Shepherd to finish off the day with a 31-14 win for the Claymores.
Claymores 31 - Admirals 14
With no running game and not much luck on the passing side the Admirals were
pretty much swamped by what was probably the best side in the league at that
point, unfortunately it took the Claymores to long to gell to get a spot in
World Bowl XI
There was a little bit of silverware as a consolation for the team as the
sponsors had put up a cup for the winning side, but hopefully they received
a better
consolation reward from the cheering fans who stayed behind to thank the
players for the 'almost' great season.
I didn't catch the official
announcement of the attendance but given there were 3,000 seats set aside
for one of the sponsors, it didn't seem to be an enormous number of people,
although better than some matches this season.
It will be interesting to see how NFL Europe is going to arrange things in
order to get as many German fans as possible over for the final as it looks
unlikely that the general Glasgow public will turn out in force, having
failed to show
up in any great numbers this season despite the Claymores having one of the
most potent offences in the league. I hear they have already started handing
out free tickets to all the children in the Glasgow area schools (what's
wrong with the rest of Scotland, don't they qualify ?). I hope that the lack
of attendees (because the Claymores never made it) doesn't affect the
viability of the NFLE financially or indeed any plans for the league as a
whole. I expect about 25,000 to attend, hope I'm wrong and its more.
