HISAR MARULI MANURUNG

I'm currently a Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, and my affiliation is with the Institute for Communicating and Collaborative Systems at the School of Informatics.

I am working on the STANDUP (System to Augment Non-speakers Dialogue Using Puns) project, funded by the EPSRC. It is a joint collaboration with the Department of Applied Computing at the University of Dundee, and is exploring how humour may be used to help non-speaking children communicate more effectively.

In late 2003 I (finally!) finished my PhD, supervised by Dr. Henry Thompson and Dr. Graeme Ritchie, entitled "An evolutionary algorithm approach to poetry generation". You can find an electronic copy of it here (or here in PDF format).

I am also an academic staff (on leave) at the Faculty of Computer Science of Universitas Indonesia.

A (rather outdated) copy of my CV is available here.
