Notes

Fields include:
- Sem: Whether Semester 1, Semester 2, or both.
- Pts: Number of credit points. A full load is 120 points per year.
- Times: Start times of lectures. Lectures last 50mins, except where noted. Click to see full timetable.
- Clash: Common compulsory Inf1 or Inf2 courses that an outside course clashes with. Linear Algebra (LA) and Calculus (CA) have a choice of lectures this year, so those clashes can probably be avoided.
- Area: C = Central Campus, KB = King’s Buildings, H = Holyrood Campus (near central area).
- Quota: Quota for the course, if listed.
The Degree Regulations and Programmes of Study (DRPS) lists course descriptions with details such as pre-requisites, prohibited combinations, locations, first class times, and times of additional components such as tutorials and labs. If viewing this page online, the course codes link to their DRPS entries. The PATH tool may also help you browse and select courses.
There are many other possible outside courses amongst the level 7 and 8 courses in the DRPS.
Some courses have complicated arrangements, not well summarized here. Always do a final check of the details in the DRPS, the timetable system, and the course webpage if one is listed near the bottom of the DRPS entry. Any remaining queries are usually answered by the lecturer in the first class.
The Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), offers 27 outside courses including “Contemporary Cinema” listed above. You must register by email with them if interested. For now, see last year’s guide for information: http://www.eca.ed.ac.uk/new-electives-2015.

Taking one 40 credit point outside course is more risky than taking two 20 credit courses. If you don’t pass the course by the end of the academic year, you will need to take 40 extra credits next year, or you might need to do a part-time repeat year.
