Orientation Perception Demos

One of the great things about doing visual cortex research is that the results are easy to visualize. Computational modeling in particular can generate large amounts of data that can be expressed as images and animations. It is not yet practical to make such detailed measurements in humans or experimental animals, so these results constitute predictions for the behavior of the visual cortex.

The animations below show how the orientation of various stimuli may be processed in the primary visual cortex; click on each one for an explanation.
