Blizzard Challenge 2007
Listener Registration
For Native Speakers of US English
who are students and aged 18-25

 

This registration page is for native speakers of US English who are students and aged 18-25 only. All other persons wishing to register should email blizzard@festvox.org for instructions.  

The purpose of this study is to learn how to improve synthesised speech. In order to do this we are gathering people's opinions on the output of several different speech synthesis systems. You will be performing a series of evaluations of the speech produced by these systems. There are five evaluations altogether. In each one you will be asked to play audio files in order to listen to some sentences and you will be asked to give your opinion about some aspect of what you hear. It is important to remember that there are no "right" or "wrong" answers. You are not being tested - it is you who is doing the testing!

You must complete the whole evaluation, but you don't have to do it all in one go, because if you leave it and then login again it will remember where you reached. There are five sections to complete and it should take a total of about 45 minutes to complete all the sections. No section should take longer than 15 minutes. No section or part of a section can be repeated - once you have submitted a response it cannot be changed. Note that what we want you to concentrate on in each section may be different, and the way of entering your response will vary. In Sections 1 - 4 you will select a description or score from a list, and in Section 5 you will type in what you hear. Detailed instructions for individual sections will be repeated at the start of each section.   

After you have completed all of the sections, you will be directed to a feedback questionnaire.  This will give you an opportunity to tell us what you thought of this study.  We would also like to gather some relevant demographic information, but please note that all questions in the feedback questionnaire are optional.

ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL SECTIONS OF THE EVALUATION AND SUBMITTED THE QUESTIONNAIRE YOU SHOULD EMAIL blizzard@festvox.org INCLUDING THE NAME OF YOUR UNIVERSITY, YOUR COURSE AND THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO RECRUITED YOU. ONCE CONSISTENCY CHECKS HAVE BEEN RUN ON YOUR RESPONSES, PAYMENT WILL BE MADE TO YOU.
