I am a Research Associate (post-doc) in the University of Edinburgh, working with Mark Steedman under the GramPlus project.
I did my PhD in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, under the supervision of Ari Rappoport. During my PhD studies, I was a member of the Azrieli Fellows Program. Before that, I studied mathematics and cognitive sciences in the Hebrew University and received my B.Sc (summa cum laude) in 2006.
I conduct research on grammatical and semantic structural representation from various perspectives, including its statistical learning and its application to NLP tasks. My PhD focused in its first part on unsupervised approaches to grammar, asking what can be learned without manual annotation. Its second half was devoted to developing a novel approach to grammatical and semantic representation, asking what (semantic) grammatically-relevant information should be manually encoded and how. The name of the scheme is Universal Conceptual Cognitive Annotation (UCCA), and it is inspired by typological and cognitive approaches to grammar. Please visit the UCCA resource page for our corpus, source code and updates. Our interactive web application can be found here.

I co-organized (with Anna Korhonen, Roi Reichart and Ari Rappoport) two workshops on Unsupervised Learning in NLP. UNSUP 2011 was held as an EMNLP workshop. ROBUS-UNSUP 2012 was held jointly with ROBUS (organized by Chris Biemann and Anders Sogaard) as an EACL workshop.
I was a program committee member in the conferences: IJCAI 2011, EMNLP 2011, IJCNLP 2011, EMNLP 2012, GSCL 2013, ACL 2013, EMNLP 2013, ACL 2014, COLING 2014, *SEM 2014 and in an ACL workshop. I also served as reviewer for the journals: CL journal and JAIR. In addition, I served as a reviewer for EACL 2009, COLING 2010, ACL 2010, ACL 2011 and EACL 2012.

I practice Judo regularly and am a certified Judo guide. From time to time, I also compete. Here is a picture of me with Sensei Murata.
I am also a great fan of desert hiking (Israel has a lot to offer in this respect).
