We have adopted a two-stage approach: A first stage scans the slide
at low resolution, identifying the locations of the cells using a water
immersion algorithm.
A high resolution image is then captured of the cell and the nucleus
is segmented using a robust
active contour implementation. This method employs a global minimum
search upon a space which is a sub-sample of the image. Every possible
contour on the search space is evaluated efficiently using dynamic programming
to find the contour of minimum cost.
