Introduction

The apparent color of an object is the physical measurement of the object's color in an image. An object's apparent color is a function of the color of the illuminant, the reflectance characteristics (albedo and specular content) of the object, the illumination geometry, the viewing geometry, and camera response parameters. A change in any of these factors can result in a variation in the object's apparent color. In this context, the problem of color recognition can be defined as the identification an object's based on its ``color'' despite such variation in the physical measurement.
