The different colors in the different images are used as follows:

• Homogeneity:
  • bright color corresponds to high gradients, thus to inhomogeneous regions (line and point areas)
  • dark colors corresponds to low gradients, thus to homogeneous regions (blobs)
• Shape:
  • bright color corresponds to high curvature in the non-homogeneous areas, thus to point areas
  • grey colors corresponds to low curvature of the non-homogeneous areas, thus to line areas
  • black color: We omit the estimation of the curvature in homogeneous areas because the gradient directions are uncertain, unstable or undefined here due to the small values of the gradients (equals zero in noise-free images).
• Ternary Image: the colors indicate the different areas of interest
  • yellow: the point areas
  • pink: the line areas
  • blue: the blob areas
• Feature (TYPE)Image: the colors represent the different feature types
  • cyan: junctions
  • yellow: dots
  • red: uncertain point type
  • cyan: step edges
  • white: bar edges
  • cyan: uncertain edge type
  • blue: blobs
• Feature Image: Here the colors correspond to feature labels. As the number of different colors in this visualization is restricted to app. 10, different features label may have the same color. A graph coloring procedure is applied to avoid that neighbored features are colored with the same color.
• ExoRegions Image: The colored regions represent the feature regions, i.e. the surrounding area of each feature enclosed by the exoskeleton lines Here the colors are identical to the colors in the FEATURE image before.
