NFS Range-mapping
(Current version: 2.4.17)

These patches add UID/GID range-mapping and file-cloaking support to the Linux 2.4 (in-kernel) NFS server and the nfs-utils package. For complete documentation apply the nfs-utils patch and see exports(5). This code was tested for over a year, so it should not be too bad! ;-)

NFS range-mapping allows an NFS server in one administrative domain to create a two-way mapping between its local UIDs/GIDs and those of an NFS client in another domain. The mappings are done transparently, requiring changes only to the NFS server and not to the NFS clients.

Note that this feature does not solve NFS's well-known security problems, but it does allow NFS servers to export volumes to other administrative domains, which can be useful.
