"A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or else what's heaven for?"

Robert Browning

I am a PhD student at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, where I am member of the Center for Speech Technology Research (CSTR). My work is being supervised by Prof. Steve Renals, Dr. Oliver Lemon, and Dr. Hiroshi Shimodaira. My studies are sponsored by PROMEP (branch of the Mexican Ministry of Education) and the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala.

My research work is focused on spoken dialogue systems that learn to optimize their behaviour. These kind of systems are appealing due to the fact that talking machines can take into account the variables that describe the different situations in the conversational environment in order to take the best actions. The aim of choosing the best machine actions is to build talking machines that achieve more successful, efficient, and natural human-machine conversations. More specifically, I am interested in investigating how to apply the reinforcement learning paradigm to large-scale spoken dialogue systems. Please feel free to send email for any question or comment.
