About me

I am a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh since July 2012, under the supervision of Dr. Mahesh K. Marina. My research is sponsored by SICSA through the SICSA PhD Scholarship grant. I am member of the Institute for Computing Systems Architecture (ICSA) and of the Wireless and Mobile Networking Group (WiMo).

In 2010 I graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and in 2011 I obtained a MSc from the University of Edinburgh.

My research interests are:
  • machine learning for context detection on mobile devices
  • energy efficient mobile sensing, and mobile computing
  • positioning and tracking
We have been awarded a Google Internet of Things (IoT) Technology Research Award to expand our work on indoor localisation.

I co-organise the SNACK (Synergyzing Non-Aligned Centres of Knowledge) Club in the School of Informatics, though sadly in recent months we're in a hibernation state with the organisers being busy with other commitements. If you want to help organise these events please get in touch.

I am involved in the Edinburgh IoT Initiative developing a LoRa wide area network as a platform for research and city pilots.
