Vicarious Learning is learning from watching others learn.
We construct a database of resources based on real learning activities:
- captured for the benefit of other learners
Typical resources are video recordings of learning dialogues:
- tutorials
- master classes
- design crits
Subsequent learners can replay the videos:
- engage with problems
- gain greater insight into solutions
- understand the learner’s viewpoint
Effects may be enhanced if learners can
- edit the videos to pick out specific points
- annotate the videos to highlight issues
- rework the content for deeper learning
Learners can develop a community activity:
- they reuse earlier learning episodes …
- integrate into other curriculum activities
- augment existing pedagogical practice
Our aim is to develop these ideas for large-scale application in educational practice
