PhD positions: I'm actively looking to recruit new PhD students for systems research. If you like to design and build computer systems, please send me your CV.
About
I'm a Professor in the Department of Informatics at TU Munich. I'm also an Honorary Staff Member at the University of Edinburgh and a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute.
Previously, I was a Reader in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, and the Technical Director of the Huawei Dresden Research Center.
Before that, I was an Independent Research Group Leader in the Cluster of Excellence at TU Dresden, where I led the Parallel and Distributed Systems group.
I graduated with a PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS). During my PhD, I also collaborated with Microsoft Research, IBM Research, Yahoo! Research and Bell Labs.
Prior to joining MPI-SWS, I worked as a member of technical staff at Adobe Systems and in the HPC group at IBM Research–India. Before that, I was a graduate student at IIT Kanpur.
Research
I’m a systems researcher: I love to design and build computer systems. A common goal of my research is to build computer systems that are efficient, reliable, and secure.
I work at the intersection of operating systems, distributed systems, storage systems, system security, data analytics systems, and cloud computing. In the past, I've also worked on compilers for multicores, and high performance computing.
