To understand cognition, cognitive scientists produce theories. These theories refer to representations and processes involved in thinking and in using language.


An informal theory may become a “box and arrow” diagram. It shows how different types of information interact.


This early model of listening to speech says that auditory analysis contacts “logogens” (units standing for spoken words).
