The FPS T series
In an attempt to combine the power of the transputer with the
connectivity of the binary k-cube, Floating Point Systems
designed a transputer-based system containing additional communication
logic and capable of being configured as a 14-cube. Each processing
element contained a single transputer together with a pipelined vector
coprocessor and 1 Mbyte of memory. The peak performance of each node
was 16 MFLOPS, and hence the peak performance of a full 14-cube would
be 0.26 TFLOPS (1012 FLOPS). However,
the size and power consumption would be somewhat large; to quote Lloyd
Turner (president of FPS) [5]
"If the customer has an application for the T/40000, we'll provide the
building."
