PhD position in the area of language modelling and optimization

We are recruiting a PhD student for a project in the ML Systems Centre for Doctoral Training (EPSRC CDT) in the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh (https://mlsystems.uk/).

The project brings together optimization problems formulation, natural language processing, and large language modelling.

This project is being conducted in collaboration with NVIDIA researchers and engineers.

The position is most suitable for UK home-fee applicants (due to funding constraints), though strong overseas applicants may also be considered.

For informal enquiries, contact scohen AT inf.ed.ac.uk (such as more information or questions about scope of your research proposal).

To apply, see https://edin.ac/45oAH29. Deadline is 2/2/2026 (Monday). When applying, please mention that you are interested in working with Shay Cohen as supervisor under the NVIDIA collaboration.

Please note that you will be applying to the ML systems CDT as a whole, the project is just theme-connected to the CDT, but not an official position in the CDT.
