PhD position in the area of AI for code and coding agents

We are recruiting a PhD student for a project in the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.

The project will focus on the area of interfacing AI with programming, and improving coding with agents and other AI tools and modeling.

This project is being conducted in collaboration with JetBrains researchers, and will include a joint supervision by Informatics (Shay Cohen) and JetBrains (Marco Damonte). It will also include an internship at JetBrains. There will be a focus on releasing work produced in the project to the open source community and engaging with the AI4code community.

The position is open to overseas applicants, and an advantage is to have strong experience in coding and applying AI for coding. The applicant is expected to have a computer science background, having basic knowledge and familiarity with concepts from the area that are not just focused on artificial intelligence. Funding is available for four years.
