(http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/~stg/) is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. He received his PhD from the Queen's University of Belfast in 1990. His research interests include mobile and dstributed code systems and the use of process algebras to describe stochastic processes which are performance models of computer systems. He has a particular interest in the use of functional languages as mobile-code languages. He has been an investigator on previous EPSRC-funded projects to develop distributed shared environments for Standard ML and to model the performance of distributed commit protocols. He has published more than 30 papers in journals and conferences and has edited the proceedings of the Third and Tenth International Workshops on Process Algebra and Performance Modelling, the workshop on Process Algebra and Stochastically Timed Activities, the FIREworks workshop on Language Constructs for Defining Features, and Trends in Functional Programming Volume 2. He is the general chair of the International Symposium on Trends in Functional Programming again this year. He was the Edinburgh site leader for the ESPRIT Framework 4 initiative Feature Integration in Requirements Engineering.
