Surface Clusters

A competent object recognition system needs a perceptual organization mechanism, to both indicate which image features are related and delimit the object's spatial extent. To help provide this mechanism, we developed [69] a new intermediate representation, surface clusters, lying between the segmented surface image and the model-based three dimensional object hypotheses. This chapter describes their role in the IMAGINE I system.
