Definition:

Active Vision is the control of the optics and the mechanical structure of cameras to simplify the processing for computer vision.

Characteristics:

• Continuous operation: The system is always running.

• Information Filter: An active vision system acts as a "FILTER" for information.

• Real Time: To be useful, an active vision system must return its results within a fixed delay (which depends on the application domain)

• Control of Processing: Fixed delay response requires limiting the data. This means restricting processing to a small region of interest.
