Getting to Edinburgh by air

Edinburgh is served primarily by Edinburgh Airport, situated 13km to the west of the city. Destinations with direct flights to Edinburgh include Dublin, Paris, Zurich, Amsterdam, Brussels, all London airports and many other UK airports. Travel into Edinburgh by taxi, approx fare £18 (which might be more than you pay for the plane ticket), approx journey time 20mins. Alternatively, use the frequent Airlink bus, operated by Lothian Region Transport, £3.30 or £5 return, journey time 25-30mins. Airlink buses run during the following times:

Monday to Saturday from 0530 to 0000, with buses every 10 minutes from 0850 to 1620 Monday to Saturday from 0500 to 2325, with buses every 10 minutes from 0935 to 1625
Sunday from 0655 to 0000, with buses every 10 minutes from 1010 to 1830 Sunday from 0630 to 2325, with buses every 10 minutes from 0945 to 1745

Getting to Edinburgh by train

For destinations to the south and east, travel with GNER (minimum travel times to Edinburgh from other UK cities include: 3hrs 59mins from London, 2hrs 16mins from York and 1hr 23mins from Newcastle). For destinations to the south and west travel with Virgin. ScotRail run services to other cities in Scotland and Northern England, and also run a sleeper service from London Euston.

Travel by car and parking

An NCP car park beside the Appleton Tower in Crichton Street is the most convenient parking location. Recommended road routes to Edinburgh can be obtained from the AA database. The postcode for the Appleton Tower is EH8 9LE.
