Katie Bexley
PhD student
Katie is a PhD student based in both Biomolecular Control Group and the Tollervey lab at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology. Her research is focused on understanding the mechanisms cells use to respond rapidly to changes in nutrient availability, and how this may determine their survival and behavior. In particular, Katie is investigating a co-regulatory relationship between cellular metabolism and translational regulation in response to glucose limitation. This work is being conducted in the model organism S.Cerevisiae, alongside human cells that experience glucose limitation associated with disease development. Outside of the lab, Katie tries to make the most of Edinburgh through running, cycling and trips to coffee shops.
